Quick guide to Prague public travel
Single-ride public traffic tickets are available for 32 CZK (90 min) or 24 CZK (30 min). They could be bought in machines at any metro station, at most of tram stations and in some news-stands (e.g. in metro stations). At the airport, the simplest ways to get the ticket is to buy it in a machine at the bus stop (for the city centre, no. 119). To buy the ticket in a machine, you will probably need a cash – coins (5, 10, 20, 50 CZK). The ticket MUST be marked immediately after the FIRST entrance into a bus or a tram in small yellow-orange "boxes" inside, or into metro area (at "street" level) – there is very common to meet ticket inspectors in the buses to/from the airport! The tickets can be used for any travel/transfer (bus/metro/tram) within the time period above. To get from airport to your hotel, you have to buy the 90 min ticket.
Taxi taken at the airport to get to the city centre is a good way to get in – only three companies are allowed to do it, prices are similar. Please, if possible, do not take a taxi directly on the streets, mainly in the city centre, as it might be expensive (cheating...). Always book your taxi at hotel (better) or by phone.
To get from the city centre (e.g. around Wenceslaw Square) to chemistry building, you can use tram number 7, 14, 18 and 24 to the station "Albertov" and then walk up on Albertov street almost to its end and turn right. A 30 min ticket should be probably enough.
Recommended public transport route from airport to centrum:
(see also "Travelling around Prague" links above)For those leaving “uphill” – most of the hotels on the map:
